dubblerainbro Doctor Whomst is the first song I listened to off the album. The high pitch vocals on the chorus drew me in like nothing else. Tight performances and great production across the whole album. Killer debut. Keep it up! Favorite track: The Air Up Here.

about

When you arrive in Somewhere City, you’re bound to notice a few things. There’s a drive-thru window open all hours of the night, and Dr. Pepper runneth over in all its water cups. A nearby amusement park is busiest on Sunday—that’s when visitors get most thrilled. There’s Danny Phantom playing from an infinite Nicktoons feed. It’s a place governed by caffeine, eternal youth, and the promise of escape. You’re not gonna be the same once you leave.

Origami Angel (vocalist/guitarist Ryland Heagy and drummer Pat Doherty) has already mapped out their Washington D.C. home base and hell, even the Hoenn region of the Pokémon universe—so let them be your guide through this green-tint utopia. They’ve even written their debut LP about it, out November 15th via Chatterbot Records. You’ll want to pause your Sword and Shield playthrough for this: an acrobatic, energetic panorama that promises more than simple travel tips.

Somewhere City (the album) is as fantastical and vibrant as its backdrop. Those landmarks from earlier? They’re here in high-definition. “24 Hour Drive-Thru” is stuffed with pomp and circumstance, a blistering pop-punk cut that pumps the brakes long enough for a doo-wop vocal section. “666 Flags” is as dynamic and surprising as a banked turn, switching between Heagy’s somersaulting guitar/vocal attack and softer introspection. Other points of interest appear like hidden haunts. “Skeleton Key” is a tender love song so intricately laced between energy bursts that it’s no wonder Chatterbot devised an alternate reality game to reveal it. “Doctor Whomst” surges forth with biting intensity—built by a tapping riff as frenetic as the lyric sheet. The fizzy “Find Your Throne” has its own dynamic twists, the biggest fueled by Heagy’s relentless PMA.

Somewhere City has no gods or masters. (Somewhere City claims Philly producer Jake Checkoway, though. Thanks, Jake.) The real power, as with much of Gami’s self-help dialogue, lies within. All who enter become better. Even you.

Track Name: Welcome to...
When I feel so lost, without a plan or a purpose, a cent or a dollar or even a cause
I know where I need to go to feel better, Somewhere that I know that I'll always belong

Finally I know that I'm not alone here
Finally I feel like I have a home here

So when you're feeling low
Or so damn distant and broken and lonely just know that you'll never be alone
There's places you can go, people you should know
You don't have to do anything or be anyone just follow the road

Just come with me
You'll have to see
There's something in The Air Up Here

The city never lets me down
Nooooo, Ohhhh
The city never lets me down
Nooooo, Ohhhh
The city never lets me down
Nooooo, Ohhhh
You'll have to see, there's just something in The Air Up Here
Track Name: 24 Hr Drive-Thru
i know it's a little bit late for fast food
and it's raining like a goddamn monsoon
but i haven't seen you in days
and someone has gotta snap you outta this phase

because you're sad, alone, and no one's home
and it doesn't have to be that way
so just call my home from your mobile phone
and you already know what to say

all you need to do is call me
and i'll take kenilworth avenue to 193
and we can get fries under dark stormy skies
and blow the thunder and lightning away
i'll text you when i'm on my way
i'll do anything that it takes, drive-thru the thunder and rain
so we can fill up both of our water cups
with Dr. Pepper and then act like we paid
it'll be okay
it'll be okay
okay okay

ohhhhh ohhhh ohhh ohhhhh
ohhhhh ohhhh ohhh ohhhhh

because you're sad, alone, and no one's home
and it doesn't have to be that way
so just call my home from your mobile phone
and you already know what to say

all you need to do is call me
and i'll take kenilworth avenue to 193
and we can get fries under dark stormy skies
and blow the thunder and lightning away
i'll text you when i'm on my way

Track Name: 666 Flags
Googling how much rollercoasters cost
So someday I can build a Gami Gang theme park
In my backyard, get sponsored by Nascar,
It shouldn't be that hard of a thing to do
So I will make it happen someday

Googling how much medicine I'll need
To stop feeling like everybody fucking hates me
Shouldn't be that much so I'll go pick up
Couldn't be that hard to do
So I will make it happen someday

It's a long way from here to where I wanna be
But I know that there is nothing stopping me
From being the person that you see on your TV

And it's a long time from now until we'll get to see
A version of me that isn't completely
Destroyed by the war and peace that's playing in my head

But just wait, it's only two more seconds
All these microscopic moments help me feel like I'm not helpless

I'm okay, and I'm trying not to feel so bad for myself
And I'm trying not to bring down anyone else
Track Name: Doctor Whomst
oh my god i feel just how i used to feel
watching Danny Phantom eating Happy Meals
every night at 7 watch my favorite shows
never really worried bout the to and fro's of the way life goes

it's like a time machine just brought me there
wiped away my thoughts and cares
and re-embraced the daylight there
or maybe, just maybe

i think i'm starting to like myself
i think i'm right where i need to be
to be the best version of myself
to be the version that i want you to see
oh oh oh i feel like i found the secret
i knew that i just can't keep it
bottled inside i can no longer hide how i feel
every single goddamn day

(chaotic oooh's ensue)

i think i'm starting to like myself
i think i'm right where i need to be
to be the best version of myself
to be the version that i want you to see
oh oh oh i feel like i found the secret
i knew that i just can't keep it
bottled inside i can no longer hide how i feel
every single goddamn day
Track Name: Say Less
I can feel the disdain in your eyes
Laughing at me as I walk away
Maybe I would be just fine
If I could just change everything that's wrong with me
But it's not that easy

You're not so good at hiding the fact that you don't like me
And if you wanna fight me, you can come and find me any day
And though I'm not the type to ever throw a fist over things like this
I'd really like the chance to speak my goddamn mind

You don't know everything, do you?
You'd do anything to prove me wrong in front of all your friends
Who don't want anything to do with me
Except for making fun of me and saying that I'm ugly

Does it make you feel so big to always have to push me under
Because it makes me feel like shit, and I hope you know

You're not so good at hiding the fact that you don't like me
And if you wanna fight me, you can come and find me any day
And though I'm not the type to ever throw a fist over things like this
I'd really like the chance to speak my goddamn mind
Track Name: Escape Rope
Breathing softly isn't easy these days I'm begging you to please stay
A little bit longer
But I can feel it, the time escaping right now, every second counts down

It's five O'clock, it's getting dark and I know you're about to go
I can't muster any strength in me to tell you no

So go, tell me all the things I already know
Tell me all about just how you won't ever wanna go
You don't ever wanna come back home

And what if everything you ever knew was wrong
The fact's you told yourself weren't true at all

So go, tell me all the things I already know
Tell me all about just how
You don't
You won't
You don't
You won't
You don't ever wanna come back
Track Name: The Title Track
Sometimes it gets hard to be alive
And you know that better than I do, better than I do
Sometimes you need Somewhere else to go
Somewhere that nobody can find you, no one will find you

But if you wanna be Somewhere you don't have to be alone
Or distraught or anything at all
Baby you don't have to be, pack all your things and we'll move to
Somewhere City
If you want to be someone that you never have to hide
Or keep bottled up on the inside
Baby you can set it free, just come with me and I'll show you
Somewhere City's waiting for you

Ooooooh ooooh oooooh x3

The City's never far away, I'm telling you
I know that you won't be the same, the same
The City's never far away, I'm telling you
The secret is it's in your brain
(Don't you know the City's never far away)
The City's never far away, I'm telling you
I know that you won't be the same once you see how the sun hits the water
At six in the morning on every single day
The City's never far away, I'm telling you
The secret is it's in your brain
I know you're gonna stay
Track Name: Skeleton Key
WOO

The overwhelming thought of being on my own
For two weeks straight without the sight of you around
The overwhelming thought of if this lasts forever
You'll find ways to remember me somehow

I hope you know everything you do is
Special to me, you're my Skeleton Key

So do you even have to ask me
You know
That I wanna be there with you
Oooh
I wanna be there with you
Oooh

I hope you know everything you do is
Special to me, you're my Skeleton Key
I hope you know everything you do is
Special to me, you're my Skeleton Key
Track Name: Find Your Throne
Hey, that's a really damn good idea
Well a matter of fact it's brilliant
For the millionth time
I really wanna see you start to shine

In this town we call our home
It's way too dark to be alone
I don't know how you see the light all on your own
So tell me all about the life you live
Tell me all the things that you would give to be someone new
I think you're better being you

Hey, that's a really damn good idea
Well a matter of fact it's brilliant
For the millionth time
I really wanna see you start to shine

I know it's hard to feel like yourself
When they see you and say you're somebody else
But I know you
I know you
I know it's tough, and that you've had enough
But if you feel like nobody does
I love you
I love you
And I won't give up that easily
Let me show you what I know

You're the goddamn king of the universe
Even when it feels like it can't get worse
All you need to do is find your Throne
And you'll never be alone, you'll never be alone
You're the goddamn king of the universe
Even when it feels like it can't get worse
All you need to do is find your Throne
And you'll never be alone

Oh oh ohhhh
Oh oh ohhhh
Oh oh ohhhh
Oh oh ohhhh
Oh oh ohhhh
Oh oh ohhhh
Oh oh ohhhh
Oh oh ohhhh
Track Name: The Air Up Here
I know that I'm probably a little bit late for your taste
But I thought that I should say that
I'm so sorry for the worry I've been causing you
I swear I didn't mean a thing
But I've been doing pretty swell
Been living like king
Been cool with everything
Been thinking that it's bout that time that I should let you know

I'm never gonna come back home again
I'm never gonna feel that low again
It's nothing that you ever did wrong it's just
I found a place to call home
I'm finally Somewhere that I have to be
Where I've been living peacefully and happily
To paradise out of a catastrophe
I feel worthwhile now
And The City Never Lets Me Down

So when you're feeling low
Or so damn distant and broken and lonely just know that you'll never be alone
There's places you can go, people you should know
You don't have to do anything or be anyone just follow the road

(Reprise)

The city never lets me down
Nooooo, Ohhhh
The city never lets me down
Nooooo, Ohhhh
The city never lets me down
Nooooo, Ohhhh
The city never lets me down
Nooooo, Ohhhh
You'll have to see
There's just something in the air up here
There's just something in the air
You'll have to see
There's just something in the air up here
